Nonlinear Parameter Optimization Using R Tools

If you've used R, you're probably well aware that there are a ton of optimization packages and base functions that it provides but they are extremely scattered so it's not easy to figure out what the best way is to tackle a particular optimization problem. For me, manuevering through the optimization functionality in R is basically like walking through a pitch black cave and needing to touch and feel each time before you take your next step.
